Arts & Crafts Revival
This Takapuna Arts and Crafts home was thoughtfully redesigned by Fraser Gillies of Lines Design in collaboration with Chroma Interiors. From the outset, it was a true joint effort. Fraser reimagined the home’s layout, repositioning the staircase as a central spiral feature that now anchors the entire space.
Chroma Interiors led the redesign of the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry, carefully considering both function and flow. Influenced by the Asian elements inherent in the Arts and Crafts movement, the new spaces embrace a Japandi aesthetic—characterised by strong horizontal lines, rich walnut joinery, and an open, harmonious feel.
“Margaux came recommended by our architect when we embarked on a major renovation of our 100 year old Arts and Craft home in Auckland.
The project extended to the complete rebuild of the kitchen, 2 full bathrooms and a laundry , some in new spaces, plus a reconfigured staircase which impacted 8 rooms.
Margaux presented beautiful concepts but with practical design detail for comfortable day-to-day living. The initial 3D renderings guaranteed our appreciation of the final look and also helped us incorporate our own ideas and input which Margaux was fully attentive to.
Beyond the design aspects Margaux provided excellent recommendations for product and suppliers which ensured high quality and overall character were maintained throughout.
Margaux was great to work with. Communication was excellent. The collaboration with architect, Margaux and builder was seamless. We enjoyed the whole process and are delighted with the outstanding completed result.”
